CanLead Forum 2010 – Two Workshops

January 22nd, 2010 · No Comments

Hey there everyone!

Here are the handouts for my workshops at the CanLead Forum 2010.

I did two workshop:

Session #1
$25, $50, $75, $100 – Building Teams Within All Budgets (download handout here , here is a picture of the whiteboard)

Sometimes money is the limiting factor.  This session will cover a variety of activities that can be made or purchased for various budgets.  Building a team and a culture is something that will pay dividends for the longterm and should not cost a lot to achieve.  There will be four sets of team building equipment that range from $25 to $100 that we will explore to see how we can all afford to build a better team and build better relationships.

Session #2
Pucks For All – Using Pucks For Building Better Relationships (download handout here, here is a picture of the whiteboard)

The puck is for more than just hockey.  This workshop will explore a variety of games and activities that will help build better relationships and better teams – all with using hockey pucks.  Pucks For All is based on the idea that we have simple tools at our finger tips that can helps us understand and appreciate the people around us.  Building relationships with pucks will show you that anyone can build a better group with very simple tools.

I also mentioned a book list – here is the link to that.  Adventureworks.org is a great place to order the books – you can get them all there.

If you would like to have me come and present workshops at your camp, conference or gathering just drop me an email.  Send it to joe@yoyojoe.com

Give the Gift of Camp for Christmas…

December 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

So we did a new promotion this year.  We offered our parents the opportunity to give the gift of camp for Christmas.  We encouraged them to put camp under the tree so that kids could open up camp on Christmas morning.

Here are some of the details:

  • our parents do not normally register for camp until January or later, so doing this promotion meant that we would have to have our forms and registration ready to go earlier.
  • coming from a private camp background I also realized that many parents in larger centres who send their kids to more expensive camps register their campers much earlier, but in southwestern Ontario the parents do not have the same sense of urgency – so we are asking parents to take a big step – register for camp earlier.
  • if campers were registered by December 15 we would send out a card to go under the tree for the camper – so the camper could open camp on Christmas morning.
  • they will also get a ‘limited edition’ t-shirt sent out to them in January – only given out to the campers who register for the Christmas special.

We have a few families that have signed up, but the value is in repeating it each year – so campers look forward to getting camp for Christmas.

Just an idea to share and put out there.

Merry Christmas to all and happy holidays to everyone.

Joe

Janet & Phil Richards – Agriculturalist of the Year – Audio

November 27th, 2009 · No Comments

About a week about I had the honour of being at the presentation of the Agriculturalist of the year dinner in Chatham, Ontario. My parents were recognized as the Agriculturalist of the year. I have attached the audio file – not the best quality – I recorded on my iphone. Our sisters were not able to attend and so thought they would like to listen to it.

I do love and care for my sisters – no matter what they believe or try to imply…
