Adam – here are the answers to your questions.

All About Battle Stilts.

To answer your questions:
  1. Yes – we do make our own stilts.  You can find the plans for these stilts here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/85212987/Dangerously-Fun  It looks like dangerouslyfun.com has discontinued…bummer – I have attached the stilt instruction as well.
  2. Yes – we do have video – I am just uploading to Facebook now…  Here it is: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151161187513339
  3. Yes – I do think that anyone "could" get hurt playing Battle Stilts.  Safety is a key concern.  We have an arena marked off with cones.  Competitors know that they need to stay to the center of the arena area.  If you step out of the arena area you lose that match.  But people can get hurt going to the bathroom as well…  We do not allow feet to leave the stilts for the purpose of attacking.  You can kick with the stilt, but not without it.  You cannot "fall" onto your competitor.
Now some other thoughts:
  1. We take 8 competitors for each week.  The rule is that is you are a battle stilt Champion you can't go in another week.  at Battle Stilts X we did a champion's round.
  2. We do a best 2 out of 3 for our matches.  So if you get knocked off 2 times you lose and the winner moves on.
  3. We promote Battle Stilts everyday on our Morning Radio Show (morning Announcements).  We build up to it, make it some thing more.
Just found this interesting article: http://www.futilitycloset.com/2006/02/20/a-battle-on-stilts/ – who knew Battle Stilts was around in the 1700's?

Let me know if you have other questions.

Hi Joe,

My name is Adam and I run a summer camp for teenagers. I've listened to you on the CampHacker podcasts and have learned quite a bit.

I recently heard you mention a game called battle stilts, and it sounded like it would be a really fun thing to bring to our camp. I was wondering a few things. Do you make your own stilts?, Do you have any video of people playing?, and finally do you think teenagers could get hurt playing it?

Thanks,
Adam
