What a hot day! The humidity was ridiculous today. We tried to keep campers hydrated and cool today – hard to do when as soon as you move you sweat.
Had an office morning – getting phone calls and things done. Tour around an insurance risk assessor – apparently we do not have many risky things at camp – which is a good thing. He liked the fact that we have a long term plan for camp – new buildings, new programs – they like it when clients have forward vision apparently.
Lead Chapel in the afternoon. Every day at camp I lead Chapel – sing songs, have a skit done by our camp actors and have an activity for the campers to do to build on the message in the skit. It is a great part of the day to help keep the campers out of the sun and teach them about God. I love the fact that many of the campers believe that I am the guy at the camp who plays the guitar. The fact that when I went swimming this morning and one of the youngest campers swims over and says, “Hey Joe, so what’s new? When do we get to sing with you?” made my day.
Had to run into London to pick up white t-shirts for tye-dye for Fingal Vacation Bible Camp that we are staffing. Got some screening to fix some windows and picked up some supplies at Lee Valley.
Introduced Circle Rules Football tonight to some staff members. Read a great article on it a few months ago and it seemed like a great game for camp. The staff loved it and we will introduce it to campers as the summer goes on.
Ended the day talking to an old camper who is looking at moving back to the area for a camp position – great to catch up and chat and share thoughts on camp.
Good night. Tomorrow is another camp day. Every camp day is awesome!
