iPad lessons learned…

So Santa brought me an iPad at Christmas. It has been a great gift and so far very useful (in my eyes). So here are a couple of lessons learned so far: 1. Bigger is better – the bigger screen size is so much more pleasant than that of the iPhone. Don’t Get me wrong – love the iPhone, but the iPad serves as a better way to view almost everything when I’m at home. 2. Kids love it – my kids call it the big phone because that is what they know. They love playing the games on it, drawing on it and reading on it. And to them is is all intuitive. They don’t need instruction on how to use an app they just play with it – they know how things should work – a great thing to think about with designing anything. I do wonder how my parents felt about computers in the early to mid 1980’s – you know the ones where we loaded games with cassettes? I thought they where great – our school had two of them on carts and you could load and play a game at recess – but loading the game took over half of the time of recess. I wonder if my parents even thought about computers then. The iPad is an interesting tool. I have found many apps that may survive the test of time – but only time will tell. Just my thoughts.

  1. I love it too and my 3 year old thinks it is great. She calls it the big iPod. How can we use iPads at camp? Can it make something more efficient, like check in? Could we have a few laying around so campers can check the photos on the website? What do you think?

    1. I could certainly see me using mine on check in. Camp director for taking notes on staff – either voice or written…

There are possibilities but will the cost outweigh the benefits?

It is infinitely more useful than a laptop…for walking around with and easier to use than the small screen of the iphone. If only it had a camera it could turn into an amazing camp photo/video tool…
